If you’re familiar with Malta, then it will only take one mention of the stunning Maltese beaches to transport you into a world of clear blue waters and fascinating surrounding scenery.

The Maltese islands (Malta, Gozo and Comino), located right at the heart of the Mediterranean have long been one of the most popular beach destinations in Southern Europe, especially with Europeans.

Apart from the beautiful beaches, what fascinates visitors most about these islands is the fact that there is so much to see, explore and experience in such tiny stretches of land.

For example, did you know that Malta is home to the oldest free standing structures in the world, dating from the Neolithic era.

Yes, people find this little bit of news fascinating because a lot of people think that the pyramids in Egypt are the oldest man made structures. Of course, they’re wrong because the Neolithic temples found in Malta and Gozo are in fact the oldest man made structures!

Back to Malta’s stunning beaches …

If you’re thinking of visiting Malta, Gozo and Comino simply for their beach life, then you’re really spoilt for choice with the abundance of beautiful beaches.

Which are the top 3 beaches though?

The Maltese islands’ most popular beaches are Mellieha Bay in Malta, Ramla Bay in Gozo and the Blue Lagoon in Comino.

Being this popular means that if you visit in summer you won’t have the beach to yourself. In fact, these beaches are often overcrowded. If you’re up for it, the best time to visit is before 10.00 am when things are still quiet or early evenings.

Ramla Bay on Gozo island is renowned worldwide for its famous orange sand. Yes you read that right. The colour of the sand on this beach is incredible and makes for stunning photos!

Visitors who visit Comino island (usually as a day trip) agree that nothing compares to having a swim in the stunning Blue Lagoon in Comino. Just the view of this lagoon is enough to take your breath away.

A final word of advice. If you’re thinking of holidaying on the Maltese islands in summer, be sure to use lots of sun screen, especially if you’re not used to the scorching Mediterranean sun.
